Posters for the Band Slaughter Beach, Dog
These posters were designed as a thesis project. Looking to combine traditional painting with graphic design, I focused on a series of posters representing the band Slaughter Beach, Dog. Focusing specifically on songs from their 2017 album, Birdie. I was drawn to their music due to lyrics which evoke nostalgic emotion through simple descriptions of mundane life which play as memories. This project conveys the band’s music and the lyrics of singer Jake Ewald while also referencing my own personal interpretation. Each poster started as an oil painting on canvas paper which was then photographed and manipulated digitally. The heavy weight of the typography was chosen to express the forcefulness of the band’s name while contrasting the more gentle nature of the music. The paintings themselves describe illustrative interiors which play with perspective and mimic the rhythm and tempo of the songs. These posters seek to reveal a universality in the band’s music.
